Blues & Boogie Woogie on two Pianos
ULLI KRON & MARC GALPERIN
It was in february 1988 that Marc Galperin and Ulli Kron met for the first time when Ulli played a gig in Marc’s hometown Bremen. Later more meetings followed on Boogie Woogie Sessions in various places all over Germany. After having published two albums each under their own names they got the idea of recording a live-CD together which had been realized soon after.
Marc Galperin, born 1957, got hooked on Boogie Woogie since 1976. He became well-known in the Rhein-Main-Neckar area within a very short time appearing as a soloist as well as bandleader of the „Southern Boogie Boys“ and the „Boogie Jumpers“. His permanent source of inspiration is the huge Boogie-Woogie scene of the Hamburg area to which he cultivates extending personal contacts. Furthermore he spots on a number of piano players but never forgot to create a style of his own. His preference is playing together with other pianists on two pianos.
ULLI KRON, born in October of 1966, already established in the European Blues and Boogie-Woogie scene when he was in his early twenties. The Wuppertal born guy quit his classical piano education after six years at the age of 15 and taught himself the Swing, Blues and Boogie Woogie idiom. Early 1985 he performed the first time in public with his Swing & Boogie Woogie Trio. Soon after this he met Germany's pioneer of Boogie Woogie, Leopold von Knobelsdorff, who inspired him to specialize on this dynamic kind of music. First influenced by the "classical" Boogie Woogie of the 20's and 30's he soon developed a style of his own. This development is (among other reasons) founded on his co-operation with vocalists and instrumentalists like Jeanne Carroll, Angela Brown and „Mr. Supercharge“ Albie Donnelly. In 2005 Ulli is celebrating his 20th anniversary on stage.
After the release of their album „Boogie Woogie Thunderstorm“ (which was been nominated for the german grammy award) they appear more and more often as a piano-duet, lightening Boogie Woogie fireworks which are unforgettable for their audience. |
